Move over, Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger, because a legendary muscle car is returning to the automotive scene!

That’s right—sources cited by GM Authority have announced that the next generation of the Chevy Camaro is set to enter production in late 2027 and, if all goes to plan, will drive onto car lots as a 2028 model.

What do we know about the upcoming Chevy Camaro for sale? Keep reading to find out!

Here’s What We Know

A lot is still unknown about the inner workings of the seventh-generation 2028 Chevy Camaro, but GM Authority has confirmed that the Camaro will be built on the Alpha 2 platform, the same platform it was built on before its hiatus.

According to MotorTrend, “sticking with Alpha suggests Chevy could forego electric and/or crossover plans in favor of a coupe or four-door muscle car with an internal combustion engine.” Unfortunately, we will have to wait to find out for certain if this is the case.

The new Camaro’s platform is set up for a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, though all-wheel drive may become available.

The Camaro is set to offer an optional V8 engine, though specifics remain unknown. With the recent debut of the 2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport, we expect Chevy to borrow the new LS6 6.7-liter small-block engine.

Here’s Our Predictions

While many details about the new Chevy Camaro will be revealed in the upcoming months, we have some predictions on what we expect–and hope–to see for the next generation.

We expect the Camaro to remain a two-door sports car, but to stay in line with the competition, we expect a four-door alternative. Speaking of in line and competition…

We anticipate the base powertrain to be a turbocharged inline-four, serving as both an affordable entry point and a worthwhile competitor to the four-cylinder Mustang.

How Much Will the New Camaro Cost?

Sadly, we still have about two years before we lay eyes on the new Camaro, but one question on every buyer’s mind is: how much will it cost?

While the 2024 Chevy Camaro ranged between $32,000 to almost $50,000, we suspect that the baseline four-cylinder Camaro will start around $40,000, with V8 models likely to start over $50,000.
